The Life and Death of Amy Johnson illustrated talk by Jane Delamaine.

Amy Johnson was an iconic figure of the 1930s, most famous for being the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia. Record-breaking pilot, engineer and beacon for hope or female empowerment and progress, Amy was the ‘influencer ’of her time; 11 years later she was dead.


Amy died in a mysterious air crash off the shores of Herne Bay while serving her country during the Second World War. Her body and the wreckage of her plane were never found. She was just 37 years old.


Jane Delamaine is a Heritage Practitioner specialising in Amy Johnson, and founder and Director of the Amy Johnson Project https://amyjohnsonproject.uk/. In ‘The Life and Death of Amy Johnson ’illustrated talk, Jane takes you on an emotional journey of Amy’s life, incredible achievements and tragic death, where possible using Amy’s own words to tell her epic story. This powerful tribute to the legendary aviatrix evokes laughter, tears and immense admiration for the lone girl flyer of the 1930s.
