- **Event Description**: Please join Mr. Garner’s family for a beautiful and historical memorial hike at Antietam Battlefield. The hike is designed for all hiking abilities. Bring your entire family, children (young and old) and pets. The entire educational staff, students (current and past) and Scouting community are invited. 

To start our time together, Mr. Garner’s son, Gavin, will share a few words on behalf of the family. 

Mr. Garner’s love for education and the outdoors/Scouting touched so many lives. We want his family to see these two passions come together in such a meaningful way. 

When: Sunday, December 7
Time: 2-4 PM
Where: Antietam National Battlefield. 
At the Historic Burnside Stone Bridge
Union Advance Trail, Sharpsburg, MD 21782

From Shepherdstown Pike; turn onto Rodman Avenue; and then left onto Old Burnside Bridge Road to the parking area.
Participants can do 1 or all 3 of the options below…

1. Take a casual walk over the famous Burnside Bridge and look at the surrounding monuments. Less than ¼ mile

2. Hike the Union Advance Trail - 1 mile loop
This trail crosses Burnside Bridge and makes a loop on the east side of Antietam Creek. The hike explores the area where the Confederates defended the Burnside Bridge, and then crosses over the creek to where the Union Ninth Corps made their advances to capture the bridge.

3. Hike the Snavely Ford Trail - 1.8 mile loop
The Snavely Ford Trail follows Antietam Creek for much of its length. The hike is mostly flat and shady except for one uphill climb at the end of the trail.
