This three-part, in-person workshop series explores the plants shaping our local landscapes—for better and for worse. Led by organic land care expert Michael Nadeau, the series is designed for homeowners and landowners and professional landscapers who want practical, science-based guidance on managing invasive plants and supporting native species. Participants may attend one, two, or all three workshops. Each session stands on its own, while together they offer a deeper understanding of how everyday land care choices can improve habitat, biodiversity, and long-term landscape health.

This introductory session sets the stage by looking at both native and invasive plants found in our region. Michael Nadeau will explore what defines a “hero” and a “villain” in the plant world, how these species function in the landscape, and why their roles matter ecologically. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how invasive plants spread, why native plants are so important, and how human land-use decisions influence both, for better or worse.
