About the event
Seward's Day
Happy Seward’s Day!
Did you know that Seward’s Day is an official state holiday in Alaska, celebrated every year on the last Monday in March?
The day commemorates the signing of the Alaska Purchase Treaty on March 30, 1867, when the United States purchased Alaska from Russia. The deal was negotiated by Secretary of State William H. Seward — and yes, that’s the Seward the holiday is named after!
At the time, some critics called it “Seward’s Folly”… but history proved otherwise. 🇺🇸 Alaska went on to become one of the most valuable land purchases in U.S. history.
