New Years Walk – Borough Green & Ightham Mote

Overview:
Join us for our New Year’s Kickstart Walk—an refreshing 8.5-mile circular route beginning in Borough Green and exploring some of Kent’s most beautiful countryside. After a few festive days indoors, this is the perfect chance to get moving, blow away the cobwebs, and set the tone for the year ahead. Every year we do New Years walk, last year saw 20 members walk Bewl Water, a beautiful day.
This year our walk takes us through peaceful woodlands, the charming village of Plaxtol, past historic Ightham Mote, and into Oldbury’s National Trust woodland before looping back with stunning views across the Weald.
A great way to start the year!!!!
Route Details:
We begin in Borough Green, heading out through woodland paths that lead us into the countryside. From here, we continue into Plaxtol village, and then across to Ightham, where we pass by the manor house of Ightham Mote, a 14th-century building. From here, the route climbs towards Oldbury Hill, an Iron Age hillfort site now cared for by the National Trust. The woodland trails here open out to deliver wide, sweeping views across the Kentish Weald—some of the finest of the walk.
We’ll then make our way back towards Borough Green, completing the loop.
With its mix of woodlands, historic landmarks, and big-sky views, this walk is the perfect way to welcome the new year.

We totally understand how you feel! In fact, around 80% of our members come to the group solo, and most of them make friends in no time at all. Our group is warm, welcoming, and supportive, and you’ll quickly find that everyone is open to chatting and getting to know each other. We have a wide variety of life experiences among us, so there’s always something to connect over. You’ll be at ease before you know it! Walking with us is not just about keeping active; it’s about making new friends and building a supportive community within nature. We can’t wait to welcome you!

💷 Cost: £10 per person
📍 Location: Meeting at Borough Green –(full details in the booking confirmation email).
⏳ Duration: Please allow approx. 5 hours hours including breaks. Please note timings are approximates.
📏Distance: 8.5miles / 13km. A hilly route with two larger inclines which we will take at a sensible pace and rest at the top. The views are worth it!
🌄 Terrain: A mix of woodland footpaths and fields
🍽️ Food & Drink: Please ensure you have all food you will need and enough water for this walk. We recommend 1.5L as a minimum. We will stop for a lunch so please bring some food with you.
🐕 Dogs: Well behaved on lead dogs are able to attend this event.
🚽Toilets: There are no toilets enroute only a wild toilet! There may be toilet facilities in the villages if they are open.
🚶♀️ Walk Leader: I am a fully trained Lowland Leader with a enhanced DBS (available upon request) and trained in outdoor first aid. I am also trained and qualified in nutrition, wellness and female health. MJ Outdoor Adventures is fully insured. Your safety is our priority.
