Cyanotype is a historic photographic printing process that uses UV light to create striking Prussian blue images, making it ideal for capturing the delicate shapes of plants and natural forms. During the workshop, you’ll explore Great Comp Garden to gather leaves, flowers and other natural materials to use in your prints, creating a truly site-specific piece of artwork inspired by the garden itself. Using pre-coated watercolour paper, you’ll arrange your chosen botanical materials and expose them to sunlight (or a UV lamp if needed), revealing beautiful, one-of-a-kind cyanotype prints. Participants are encouraged to enjoy the garden either before or after the workshop, allowing time for observation, inspiration and exploration. No previous printmaking experience is required – this workshop is suitable for all abilities. You will leave with a selection of finished cyanotype prints, each a unique record of your time spent creating art at Great Comp Garden. What’s included: • Entry to Great Comp Garden for the day (open 10am–5pm) • Tea and filter coffee during the workshop • All cyanotype materials and equipment • Pre-coated watercolour papers in a range of sizes • Expert tuition from Val Burnage What to bring: • An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting marked • Comfortable shoes suitable for walking in the garden Lunch is not provided. The Old Dairy Tearoom within the garden is open throughout the day and offers delicious lunches and cakes. Details: Duration: 2 hours: We will be running two sessions on Sunday 6th September at the following times: 10am – 12 noon 1:30pm – 3:30pm Maximum participants per session: 6 This workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to learn a historic printing technique while creating a unique piece of Great Comp-inspired artwork in an exceptional garden setting. Tickets Tickets must be pre-purchased online, and cost £45 pp. Please note: The event will take place in The Garden Room within Great Comp’s 17th-century manor house. This room is currently not accessible to wheelchair users. Due to the Grade II* listed status of the property, it has not been possible to make the necessary adaptations.
