Mo Pitney (born Morgan Daniel Pitney on March 24, 1993, in Cherry Valley, Illinois) is a rising star in neotraditional country music, known for his sincere songwriting, old-school sound, and strong connection to his roots. He began playing drums at age six and guitar at twelve, soon founding a bluegrass band with his brother—a background that deeply influences his music .
In 2014, Pitney signed with Curb Records and released his debut single, “Country,” co-written with Bill Anderson and Bobby Tomberlin. The track became a “ToC Critic’s Pick,” praised for its heartfelt, simple sound and marked his commitment to traditional country themes. That same year, he collaborated with legendary producer Tony Brown on his first album.
Behind This Guitar (2016) debuted at #10 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. It showcases a warm, organic sound and poignant storytelling, featuring singles like “Country,” “Boy & a Girl Thing,” and “Everywhere.” “Boy & a Girl Thing,” with Morgane Stapleton’s backing vocals, emphasizes Pitney’s talent for painting honest, charming narratives about everyday love.
His sophomore album, Ain’t Lookin’ Back (2020), marks personal and artistic growth. Produced alongside Jim “Moose” Brown, it reflects his evolution as a performer, father, and storyteller. Pitney infuses the album with fresh flourishes—loop pedals, nuanced percussion—and explores themes of family, faith, and faithfulness with renewed authenticity.
Deeply rooted in faith and family, Pitney is both a storyteller and a soul laid bare. Whether reminiscing about meeting Merle Haggard or reflecting on life with his wife and three children, his music carries heartfelt emotion, timeless melodies, and a quiet confidence. At the Grand Ole Opry, in bluegrass jams, or on dusty Nashville nights, Mo Pitney is a genuine keeper of country tradition—with plenty more to come.
