Rev. Dr. Carla Cheatham brings a rare and deeply integrated perspective to the Caregiver Symposium, shaped by decades of experience in psychology, trauma-informed care, theology, hospice chaplaincy, ethics, and palliative education. Having walked alongside individuals and families through some of life’s most vulnerable moments, she understands firsthand the emotional, spiritual, and physical demands placed on caregivers. Drawing on her national leadership in resilience, emotional intelligence, and post-traumatic growth, Dr. Cheatham will move beyond the clichés about self-care to offer practical, sustainable tools that help caregivers remain present, compassionate, and grounded. Her approach emphasizes mindfulness, healthy boundaries, and emotionally intelligent practices that not only support those at the bedside but also model the very well-being we hope to encourage in others. Rooted in both professional expertise and personal renewal practices that keep her own spirit replenished, her message is both credible and compassionate—equipping caregivers to serve with strength, wisdom, and renewed resilience. To further support participants, onsite respite care for loved ones will be provided by GRMC Hospice volunteers, allowing caregivers the space to fully engage, rest, and receive.
