In this workshop, you will bring to form startling calligraphic paintings as well as embody and realize your are the art! What Alok calls “the creativity of non-doing (wuwei)” requires not effort nor achievement on your part, which both actually get in the way. Instead your relax into the spaciousness prior to “thought”,prior to the main human enterprise of “doing”. In many different ways, often with great humor, Alok will ask you to paint things that would be impossible to paint if you insist on thinking your way through it. You quickly reclaim your natural courage to be comfortable and intimate with “not-knowing”. Abiding with not knowing, you discover creativity happens on its own! and through your availability and cooperation, it includes you in a joyful intimacy. You don’t have to be a skilled artist and you don’t have to “do” it. The skilled artists have the hardest time in this workshop! As you show up with “beginner’s mind”, which is essential for practicing the creativity of non-doing, you are surprise and grateful that you are already “home”.
Workshop begins each morning at 8 am (come a few minutes early). Alok will lead us in a meditation that combines movement with stillness to support our being "present, available, playful and not-knowing." Mid-morning, Alok will serve us High Mountain Wulong tea from Taiwan. Herb tea and water are also available. Bring your own lunch. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can stand in. Workshop concludes both days at 4 pm.
