Applied Zoopharmacognosy: Canine Gateway Workshop
Delve deep into using essential oils, extracts, hydrosols, herbs as remedies to heal your pets — and yourself. Develop an understanding of the chemistry behind the healing, and experience distillation first-hand.
Zoopharmacognosy is a behavior in which non-human animals in the wild instinctively self-medicate by selecting and ingesting or topically applying plants, soils, insects, and psychoactive drugs to prevent or reduce the harmful effects of pathogens and toxins and heal themselves.
Applied Zoopharmacognosy was founded by Caroline Ingraham in 1984. Ingraham is the leading expert in this field of animal self-Medic*tion. In this class, you will learn by tapping into and enabling your animals’ (aka fur babies’) self healing by offering “remedies.” The remedies are plant extracts containing the exact same or similar constituents that the animals could find and forage in their natural habitat.
This is giving the power back to the animal, trusting that the animal knows what is best for itself. The remedies that are offered for choice are of a great variety of plant extracts such as essential oils, absolutes, co2 extracts, herbs, plant extracts, macerated and fixed oils, clays, algae, seaweeds and minerals. The animal selects the remedy and then decides how to dose itself. So, the animal will choose to inhale it, take it orally, or by rubbing a body part into it. Or all three!
