Police Memorial Ceremony

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. This important observance is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our communities and ensuring our safety. Over the years, National Police Week has grown into a significant event, drawing tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world to Washington, DC. Here, they participate in a series of planned events that pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This year, the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Police Memorial service on Monday, May 12th, in front of the Pettis County Courthouse at noon. This solemn ceremony will provide an opportunity for community members to come together and honor the courage and dedication of law enforcement officers who have given their lives in service to their communities. It is a moment to reflect on their sacrifices and to express our gratitude for their unwavering commitment to public safety.

As we observe National Police Week, let us remember the fallen heroes and support the officers who continue to serve with honor and integrity. Their dedication to duty and their willingness to put themselves in harm's way for the safety of others is truly commendable.
