We will take time to be with our own individual body and cells, we will talk about biomechanics of joints, and we will play with awkward and comfortable shapes the body discovers when it’s in motion-contact with another body. I’m looking forward to sharing this time and exploration with you. -- CLASS FACILITATOR -- Kandace Syer is a student of Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. She started her somatic quest at The School for Body-Mind Centering in 2012. She started celebrating and grieving existence through dance at a young age. She’s a momma, a community member, a stillness cultivator, and a future-dreamer. -- LIVE MUSICIAN -- Nate Levin is an Oberlin Conservatory-trained improvising musician who has performed professionally on all seven continents in settings ranging from concert halls and festivals to yoga studios and movement spaces. For this Contact Improvisation gathering, Nate offers an entirely acoustic, fully improvised explorations on double bass, handpan, and shamisen, played in real-time conversation with the dancers. His intention is to be deeply responsive—listening, reacting, and shaping the music moment-to-moment to support presence, weight, flow, and collective exploration. Drawing from a background that bridges formal training, global traditions, and somatic sound work, Nate creates music that is textural, spacious, and attuned to movement, allowing dancers to lead while the music breathes alongside them. -- LOCATION -- Soft Medicine: 186 N Main St. Sebastopol, CA 95472 (downstairs -through cafe to studio) -- ENTRANCE FEE -- $20 for the whole night, whether you go to the class and/or jam. -- FINANCIAL ACCESSIBILITY -- A discount of 50% is available for marginalized peoples, such as BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ folx and those who are experiencing financial hardship..... or pay what you can; NOTAFLOF. -- CLOTHING REQUEST -- * Bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes, if you are prone to sweating while dancing. * Wear clothing that will keep your butt, genitals and nipples covered while moving in non-linear and unpredictable ways.
