Richard Russell Group: One World Music

The Richard Russell Group is a Seattle-area acoustic ensemble that offers a unique style they call "One World Music". Russell is a distinguished sarod player and composer who learned from world-renowned Indian music master Ali Akbar Khan. The ensemble creates a unique sonic atmosphere that blends Indian rāga aesthetics and improvisation with western classical harmony and other world music influences. In addition to sarod, the group features Grammy winner Nancy Rumbel on woodwinds and ocarina, stellar drummer Anil Prasad on tabla and the superb cello of Dave Takahashi. The musical arc of their concerts moves effortlessly from serene meditation to high-energy celebration that offers solace and inspiration to the listener.
