- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 17 Sep, 2026 at 08:00 am – Fri, 18 Sep, 2026 at 04:00 pm (-07:00)
- **Event Description**: Join the University of Washington Autism Center, in partnership with FTF Behavioral Consulting, for this two-day training that provides an in-depth exploration of contemporary, compassionate Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practices designed to improve relationships, safety, and meaningful outcomes for autistic individuals and other developmental and intellectual disabilities. Grounded in collaboration, dignity, and client empowerment, the training blends values-based foundations with practical, evidence-based applications.

Day 1 begins with an examination of Today’s ABA, emphasizing its core values and the essential competencies required of professionals providing direct support across the lifespan. Participants will then engage in a detailed review of the latest iteration of the Practical Functional Assessment (PFA). Attendees will learn how to use synthesized reinforcement contingencies, prioritize functional control over functional classification, and derive key assessment components from interviews. The session highlights strategies for conducting safe, efficient, and observable functional analyses while designing contexts in which learners are happy, relaxed, and engaged. Participants will also learn how to empower clients, prevent escalation of problem behavior, identify priority skill sets, and collect meaningful assessment data.

Day 2 focuses on the Skill-Based Treatment, guiding attendees through methods for rapidly and safely building replacement skills within an open-door model that minimizes escalation and eliminates the need for physical management. Participants will learn how to develop communication and toleration repertoires, shape contextually appropriate behavior chains, respond effectively to potential resurgences of problem behavior, and use choice-based models to enhance learner autonomy. Emphasis is placed on data collection, progress monitoring, and making values-based and performance-based clinical decisions.

The training concludes with an introduction to the Universal Protocol, a framework designed to increase safety, dignity, and joy across daily environments. Attendees will learn the seven elements of the protocol, how to support its implementation, and how to evaluate its impact at both the individual and organizational levels.

By the end of this training, participants will be equipped with a cohesive, humane, and practical approach to assessment and intervention that prioritizes meaningful relationships, learner empowerment, and sustainable behavioral change.
