When the sun goes down you have an incredible opportunity to create unique images that you will be proud to share. Join photographer Brian Leary for a deep dive into night photography.As long as you have a basic understanding of shutter speed, ISO and aperture, this course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to create stunning images at night and take your landscape and cityscapes to a new level.After the online class you’ll get to take what you have learned and put it into practice. With your choice of one or two different experiences designed to bring very different techniques of capturing an image at night, you can choose whichever piques your interests the most, or both!Location 1: Night In An Urban Environment | University of Washington - Red Square | Friday, September 18 | 8:00pm - 10:00pmWe will use the incredible architecture and open spaces of the University of Washington’s Red Square and Quad as our backdrop for this experience, under the guidance of instructor Brian Leary. With man-made light of different colors coming from multiple angles, the surreal images you can create at night are only limited by your imagination. See how you can create mood and intrigue with a subject that has a very different personality during the day. * This workshop is a rain or shine workshop.Location 2: Night Under Moonlight | Rattlesnake Lake, North Bend, WA | Saturday, September 19 | 8:30pm - 10:30pmWhen the light of the moon mixes with the ambient light of nearby cities, the images that are taken at a popular daytime destination take on a whole new life. We will head to Rattlesnake Lake near North Bend to take advantage of a unique landscape at one of the closest point to the city to photograph under the power of moonlight, under the guidance of instructor Brian Leary. *This workshop location requires at least 50% open sky. Weather contingency will be Sunday, September 20th.What we will cover in the lecture:The equipment you will needHow to compose, focus and find your exposure in the darkUsing existing light and painting with lightPlanning a trip of night photography excursionTips and tricks to create effect in your imagesFor the practical portion of your workshop, you will want the following items:Camera with the ability to take a 15-30 second exposureA sturdy tripod & extra batteryWeather-appropriate clothing • Shoes or boots with nonslip treadsHeadlamp (headlamp with red light for Night Under Moonlight workshop)A hand warmer with a ziplock sandwich or 1 qt bag and a rubber band (you’ll learn why in the class)Workshop attendees need to have taken the prerequisite online lecture and have a good working knowledge of their camera and basic photography knowledge.ONLINE LECTURE ONLY - Can't join the workshop?
