Please note that we are changing the opening format of the 3rd Friday milonga. From now on, we will open doors by 7:15 and run a one-hour class before the dance. These classes will be taught by some of our excellent local teachers who will offer an all levels class to give you an idea of their teaching style. There is no charge for the class. OmCulture is offering this both as a means for local teachers to promote themselves and as an opportunity for dancers to learn and socialize prior to the milonga. This month we are pleased to be hosting Kristina Ivanova and her dance partner Sergei for the class. Topic "Flowing together: giro sequences to a musical phrase". Description: a warm, connection-based class focused on building a simple, social tango sequence with a giro, organized within a musical phrase. After class, Kristina will also be our DJ for the evening. About her musical taste, Kristina says: I am drawn to tango music that breathes depth — the kind that unfolds slowly, with weight and emotional resonance. The worlds of Aníbal Troilo and Osvaldo Pugliese feel like home to me. Lately, I’ve been rediscovering Ángel Vargas beyond his familiar recordings with Ángel D'Agostino — hearing new dimensions in his voice that I’m excited to bring into the room. For me, DJing is not about imposing music, but about listening — to the space, to the dancers, to what wants to emerge here and now.
