About the event

A Smokin' Rock & Rollin' New Years Eve in Long Beach
Join Dave Alvin, “The King of California,” when he appears at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Long Beach on New Years Eve.
Alvin (The Blasters, X, Knitters) will headline the celebration with his full touring band, The Guilty Ones.
Alvin is one of the pivotal pioneers of Americana, whose mix of roots rock style was developed early on with his brother, Phil Alvin.
Combining blues, folk, rockabilly, Bakersfield country, surf and garage rock & roll, and taking lyrical inspiration from writers like Chandler and Steinbeck, Alvin says his songs are “like California...a big, messy, melting pot.”
Through his long, critically-acclaimed solo career, Alvin has mixed his varied musical and literary influences into updated version of traditional American music, with highlights including songs like “Fourth of July,” “Long White Cadillac,” “King of California,” “Harlan County Line” and “Marie Marie.”

Rosie Flores, the Rockabilly Filly, is a national treasure, a guitar-slinging vocalist who's been making memorable music from rockabilly to cowpunk to honky tonk over a 50-year career. True rockabilly royalty, Rosie has two Ameripolitan Awards to her credit, a 2024 NEA National Heritage Fellows gold medal and a Peabody Award, among many accolades. Flores has done more to preserve roots music than most veteran musicians, successfully reviving the careers of Janis Martin and Wanda Jackson, showing the true compassion of the Austin-based musical icon. Flores was also the first Latina to crack Billboard’s Country Music Chart.

Deke Dickerson, a self-described Guitar Geek, excels at more than just pickin' his vast collection of guitars. He's also an acclaimed singer, songwriter, author, collector, and film composer - with his own recording studio.
Dickerson (Untamed Youth, Dave & Deke Combo, Ecco-Fonics, The Whippersnappers) champions a righteously pure retro sound, and is a roots renaissance man. There is seemingly nothing he cannot do, and do well.
For the Smokin' show, Deke will front an All-Star Western Swing band, performing a set of joyous dance music ala Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys, Wynn Stewart and Milton Brown. Ahh-haa!

Lil' Mo & The Dynaflos have spent 20 + years playing up-tempo danceable Doo-Wop worldwide, selling out shows from LA to Tokyo to Paris.
Doo-Wop, which evolved from pop, jazz and blues, has influenced many major rock & roll groups. When they hit the Smokin' stage with their new vocal addition Miss Mac - plus a horn section - you will experience the ecstasy that only great doo wop can deliver!

Grey DeLisle makes a return appearance to Stellar's New Years Eve lineup. DeLisle fronts the popular trio Eddie Clendening & The Blue Ribbon Boys, now touring in the U.S. plus Europe, Asia and Australia.
Clendening originated the role of, and was featured as Elvis Presley in the hit Broadway musical “The Million Dollar Quartet,” where he performed 8 shows a week to packed houses - racking up over 2,200 performances.
Grey DeLisle is more than a singer/songwriter - she is also our Mistress of Ceremonies. She is a stand-up comedienne, a renowned voice actress and a damn good C&W singer. Her lyrics are often hilarious and her stage style includes grand ole country impressionism, down to the big hair and statement-making choice of dress: antique Appalachian wedding gowns. She is currently co-host of Ray Benson’s Roadhouse on RFD-TV, and her cartoon voices include SpongeBob Squarepants, The Simpsons, King of the Hill and Scooby-Doo characters.

We have plenty more entertainment in store for this year’s rendition of A Smokin’ Rock & Roll New Years Eve.
The hardwood dance floor, a larger stage and a light show will make your experience even brighter.
Since the Golden Sails has closed permanently, the celebration will transfer to a rarely used historic venue that has a charm all its own, the Scottish Rite Cathedral, a 100 year-old marvel where we presented the Chris Gaffney Reunion several years back (also with Dave Alvin). Built in 1924, it’s an ornate architectural showpiece that survived the earthquake of 1933.
AMENITIES:
It’s important to us that Stellar Shows lives up to its reputation for classy, seated venues with a dance floor, fine food and great sound. The opulent Scottish Rite offers all of that plus plenty of free fenced parking, banquet tables, a large stage and full bar.
CATERING: For your dining pleasure, we offer an Asian buffet at a very reasonable price, and while it will continue to be an optional choice for our attendees - you will undoubtedly want to reserve your meal in advance.
HOTEL: With downtown Long Beach just minutes away, there are many hotels for our guests to choose from. All the major chains are represented, as are Air B&Bs and boutique / historic hotels and motels. (area code 90813)
We suggest the Quality Inn in Signal Hill. Hotel Current is another nearby hotel on PCH.
HOURS: Doors open at 6, show starts at 7
