His story continues to resonate, opening space for reflection on issues that remain urgent today.Earlier in the day, some participants will have taken part in a creative writing workshop exploring the theme of thresholds and reflecting on lives lived between places, identities and moments of transition. Through guided exercises and discussion, writers will have developed new work responding to David Oluwale’s story and their own lived experiences.This broadcast marks the moment where that work crosses another threshold, from page to airwaves. Writers may choose to share pieces created during the workshop, alongside other contributions responding to the theme. It creates a moment of sharing and listening. In carrying words from private reflection into collective listening, we open a space where stories of transition, resistance and hope can be heard across the city.We welcome you to join the workshop, or be part of the broadcast or both. An expert in African diasporic cultures, she’s published Anansi’s Journey: A Story of Jamaican Cultural Resistance (2012) and American Trickster: Trauma, Tradition and Brer Rabbit (2019). She co-edited Oluwale Now: An Anthology of Poetry, Prose and Artwork (2023) with Sai Murry and has written two poetry collections published by Peepal Tree Press, Bath of Herbs (2023) and Other Wild (2025). Her work explores folklore, cultural resistance and 'othered' perspectives on the natural world.Abdullah Adekola is a Black, working-class, poet and creative wellbeing practitioner. He believes human connection and creativity is essential in an increasingly artificial world.
