---------------------

Nay Aug Park near The Greenhouse Project is the site of a new Interpretive Sign honoring Lenape Culture - specific to the Lenape people's longstanding relationship with the earth. The “Spirit of Lenapehoking in Nay Aug Park” Interpretive Sign will be ceremoniously dedicated at 12:00 noon near The Greenhouse Project in Nay Aug Park, in a joint effort of the University of Scranton and The Greenhouse Project, with funding from the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority and Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department, and in partnership with the Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority and The City of Scranton.

Unveiling this new interpretive sign the weekend leading into Earth Day Week, Lenape elder Curtis Zunigha will lead the Dedication Ceremony.

Following the Dedication Ceremony, the public will be invited to enjoy a Lenape Cultural Program that includes language, storytelling, and the sharing of indigenous seeds to take home for their own gardens.

Also led by Curtis Zunigha, the program runs from approximately 12:30-1:30 pm. Both the sign dedication and the cultural program are open to the public, reconnecting residents to the deep roots of Lenape people in this region they call Lenapehoking, and the role that the Lenape historically and currently play in the journey of our Nation.

Curtis Zunigha is an enrolled member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians in Oklahoma, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Through programs in culture and art, he helps build understanding and community around the return of Lenape people to their ancestral homeland, Lenapehoking, after generations living through the traumas of forced removal. His programs are uplifting, educational, and seek to connect people through developing relationships with one another and with the earth.

---------------------
The seeds have a memory, the seeds have a spirit. When the seeds of the ancestors are rematriated back into Mother Earth, they have a memory that connects deep beneath the soil. They have an ancestral knowledge - about caring for one another.
