We'll give a short introduction of the Virginia Grassland Bird Initiative before heading out to bird watch and walk.This time of year, we'll likely be able to witness the bobolink, a rarely-seen grassland bird, as they pass through the farm on their migration to Northern Virginia for nesting.What the walk will be like: We'll be walking through active farmland, so the terrain will be mostly flat but some occasional uneven ground. The ~1-mile walk will move slowly, allowing lots of stops for bird watching.What you'll need: Wear long pants and close-toed shoes as we'll be walking through tall grasses, sunblock, water and anything else you need to feel comfortable. Binoculars and a camera are a plus to get an up close look at the birds.What you'll get: This is a great opportunity to become acquainted with grassland birds of all kinds and learn what we can all do to protect them.The event is free but registration and a signed participation waiver are required.
