An IP address is often the single most critical starting point for linking online criminal activity to a specific device and, ultimately, to a suspect. Yet many investigators encounter IP data in their cases without a clear framework for interpreting it, acting on it, or documenting it in a way that holds up legally.

This course closes that gap.

Understanding and Tracing IP Addresses is a focused, 4-hour operational training that gives investigators a structured, step-by-step process for locating and tracing IP and MAC addresses in criminal investigations. Participants will leave with practical tools, applied techniques, and the foundational knowledge needed to build a defensible digital evidence trail.

What You Will Learn

Dr. Bill Hunkapiller serves as Florida State University's Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer, leading teams across Security Architecture, Security Operations, and Risk, Compliance, and Privacy.
