This summer, the young musicians Caravan Orchestra and Choir spend a week rehearsing at the Bavarian Music Academy in Hammelburg. At this concert, you can experience the initial results and contributions from both the participants and the instructors. The audience can look forward to stirring, high-energy music from exceptional young musicians who never stand still, but always move *vayter* (Yiddish for “onward”)—specifically, toward one another!

Caravan Orchestra and Choir 2026 is led by four outstanding musicians from around the world: Polina Shepherd (UK), Veronika Varga (Hungary), Josh “Socalled” Dolgin (Canada), and Ozan Demir (Turkey). Together, they represent a premier international lineup of Yiddish, Greek, and Turkish musical expertise, bringing both inspiration and a multifaceted repertoire to the project.

These four musicians will perform as soloists, small groups from the orchestra will play music most close to their heart and then the full orchestra and choir will perform a few pieces learnt in the first week of the running of this project. 

Look forward to Klezmer infused with Turkish-Arab percussion, Yiddish songs featuring Ottoman variations, and Greek and Turkish dance music driven by Arab rhythms—an event not to be missed!

Since 2017, Yiddish Summer Weimar has brought together around 45–50 young musicians from Israel and Germany. For three weeks—far removed from politicization and polarization—they collaborate to develop an exhilarating concert program and present it to an audience that is captivated time and again.

The participants from Israel are both Arab and Jewish, while the German group comprises a diverse mix of young music students from various conservatories. They all share a passion for compelling music and a desire to make music together and learn from one another—exploring music, languages, songs, dance, rhythms, scales, *shteyger*, *maqamat*, and more!

Schon seit 2017 kommen beim Yiddish Summer Weimar etwa 45-50 junge Musiker*innen aus Israel und Deutschland zusammen, um drei Wochen lang – fern von aller Politisierung und Polarisierung – ein berauschendes Konzertprogramm zu erarbeiten und einem immer neu begeisterten Publikum zu präsentieren.

Die Teilnehmenden aus Israel sind arabisch und jüdisch, die deutsche Gruppe stellt eine bunte Mischung junger Musikstudierender vieler Musikhochschulen dar. Alle teilen die Leidenschaft für spannende Musik und den Willen, miteinander zu musizieren und voneinander zu lernen: Musik, Sprachen, Lieder, Tanz, Thythmen, Tonleitern, Shteyger, Maqamat und mehr!

Geleitet wird Caravan von vier großartigen Musiker*innen aus der ganzen Welt: Polina Shepherd (GB), Veronika Varga (HU), Josh “Socalled” Dolgin (CA) und Ozan Demir (TR). Sie alleine stehen für die allererste internationale Riege jiddischer, griechischer und türkischer Musik und bringen Inspiration und ein vielseitiges Repertoire mit.

In diesem Sommer proben die jungen Musiker*innen eine Woche lang in der Bayerischen Musikakademie Hammelburg. Die ersten Ergebnisse und Beiträge der Teilnehmenden und Dozierenden können Sie an diesem Abend erleben. Das Publikum erwartet mitreißende und energiegeladene Musik von jungen Ausnahmemusikern, die nie stehenbleiben, sondern vayter (jidd.: weiter) gehen – und zwar aufeinander zu!
