- **Event Name**: Q.U.I.L.T.S workshop: Starting Up or Brushing Up!
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 09:00 am – Sat, 24 Oct, 2026 at 03:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: To kick off this year’s workshop series' “Back To Basics” theme, long time Q.U.I.L.T.S. member Kathie Lutz will be teaching a workshop called “Starting Up or Brushing Up!” This informative class will help new quilters in their efforts to get started and long time quilters to brush up on their skills.

Kathie describes the two-fold purpose of this workshop: “I had been quilting for several years when I went back and took a basic class and learned all kinds of things. I learned simpler, more precise ways of doing things, even something as simple as the proper way to use my ruler when I was cutting strips.

If you are new to quilting, you can make sense of what you are trying to do. If you have been quilting, there are always new hints and techniques to make your work more precise because you can’t learn it all at once.”

In the Starting Up or Brushing Up workshop Kathie will review:
- basic concepts like working with rulers, pressing, fabric grains, working with patterns, etc.
- creating basic shapes with precision – these are the building blocks for almost everything. When you can do these well, you can do anything: 9 patch, ½ square triangle, ¼ square triangle, log cabin.
- joining squares with precision to get a flat, square quilt.

Instead of a finished project or sampler, Kathie will help you put together samples with directions to start your own quilt notebook. Click this link to see a description of the workshop, a link to the supply list and the registration form: https://forms.gle/SNuM1V3gn4aogi5q7.
