Online Art Appreciation Course

SFAI’s Online Art Appreciation course is designed to enhance ones mastery of engaging art, artist, cultures and cultural artifacts. The course is flexible to meet busy schedules. Register by September 14 and the special introductory course fee is only $450.

Through weekly reading, writing, watching, listening and creating activities, students will develop an understanding of the aesthetic world around them. This course will cover a broad range of topics and themes, such as Women in Art History, Ancient  Civilizations, Mediums, Manifestos and the Great Collections and Museums of the world.

This is a semester long course taught over 12 weeks. Each week students will engage in a range of work from reading, writing and creating centered around a theme in art history. Students will be expected to interact and dialogue with their classmates as well as their instructors in weekly discussion forums and creative projects.

Earn three college credit from the school where Ansel Adams founded the photography department and Annie Leibovitz and Kehinde Wiley got their start. SFAI is one of the most prestigious art schools in the country, and home to creative and curious students like you.

PLEASE NOTE: SFAI's Online Art Appreciation course is held contingent on a minimum enrollment, which is determined two business days prior to a class start date.


Is this course 100% online?Yes. This course is designed to provide flexibility for high school students and adult learners. Once I register for the course, what happens?Students will be contacted the week prior to September 16 by the instructor to review the course syllabus, weekly assignments and online learning platform. Readings and course materials will pull from online resources such as the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, along with more offbeat sites such as Sartle, which is a project created by two San Francisco Art Institute alumni.

Students who withdraw from the course by September 20, 2019 will receive a full refund. Students who withdraw after that date will not be eligible for a refund.

Is this course graded?Yes, students will receive a grade at the end of the course. If students are unable to complete the course for any reason, they have until November 15, 2019 to withdraw from the course and receive a "W".
