AWWEE on the Bay: Enhydra Boat Tour & Golden Gate Boat Tour
AWWEE’s Bay Area regional leadership team invites AWWEE members to join them for a very special morning on the bay with Red and White Fleet. We’ll start the morning with a special behind-the-scenes tour and presentation of the Enhydra, the largest plug-in hybrid electric passenger vessel built from the keel up under US Coast Guard regulations. The vessel at 128 feet in length has a capacity of 600 passengers.
The Enhydra is Red and White Fleet’s first step towards its goal of reaching a zero-emissions fleet by 2025. The hybrid drive system operates much the same as a plug-in Prius, efficiently moving from all electric to mechanical-electric mode depending on load and providing no less than 20% to 30% fuel savings. Additionally, the onboard permanent magnet generators are powered by EPA Tier 3 engines run on 100% biofuel, further reducing emissions with a 30%-80% lower carbon intensity and lower criteria emissions than fossil fuel.
After the Enhydra tour, we’ll be welcomed aboard for the Red and White Fleet’s Golden Gate Bay Cruise. We’ll set sail for a 60-minute cruise along San Francisco’s waterfront, under the majestic Golden Gate Bridge and loop closely around the notorious Alcatraz Island. A personal headphone audio tour included with the cruise will narrate the tour including Fort Mason and the Marina District, Crissy Field and the Presidio before cruising directly under the 4,200-foot long, 746-foot high span of the Golden Gate Bridge. As we head back into the Bay, we’ll travel past the wildlife reserves of the Marin Headlands and the legendary town of Sausalito. We’ll slowly cruise around the infamous Alcatraz Island as we make our way back to the Fisherman’s Wharf. (Note: unfortunately, we cannot be guaranteed that the cruise will be aboard the Enhydra)
