CLMCD and the City of Sault Ste Marie, MI will host a iNaturalist Bio-blitz. Come capture and identify as much wildlife, plants, fungi, birds, reptiles, amphibians as you can through the iNaturalist App. We will be on site to help you along the way. Stay tuned as we may even have a couple prizes for those that join us!

The City of Sault Ste. Marie, The Central Algoma
Land Trust, the Sault Naturalists, the Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority, the Chippewa Luce Mackinac Conservation District, and the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan invite area residents to participate in the 2026 City Nature Challenge, a global competition amongst cities around the world competing to gather the most observations about local plants and wildlife. Once again this year, participants in the Algoma District and Chippewa County will compete as an international team. The competition is from April 24 to April 27, 2026. Identification will be completed between April 28 and May 10, and results will be announced on May 13. Last year, Algoma region placed 12th in Canada! Let’s see if we can do better this year!

Observations can be submitted by downloading the iNaturalist app from the App Store or Google Play and creating an account. From April 24 to April 28, click Observe and take pictures of wild plants, animals, and record sounds. Visit the City Nature Challenge page at www.citynaturechallenge.org for instructions and tips.
