Kinley Corner Riding Club (KCRC) &amp; SLR - Country Roads Trail Ride Proposal Outline


Location: Kinley, SK (approx. 50 km west of Saskatoon)

Hosted by: Kinley Corner Riding Club

In partnership with: Saskatchewan Long Riders Association (SLR), Saskatchewan Horse Federation (SHF) 50th Anniversary, Sask Riding Club Association (SRCA) 60th Anniversary 

1. Event Vision

To create a welcoming, prairie-based trail riding experience that brings together riders of all levels for:

Family fun

Fellowship within the horse community

Awareness and promotion of local riding clubs and organizations

Horse conditioning - maintenance opportunity (go at speed and distance you are comfortable with)


2. Event Goals

Promote the Kinley Corner Riding Club and its programs including offering horses to riders in the city who are University/College who are away from home and had to give up their horses for post secondary education.

Increase awareness of regional organizations like SRCA and SHF.

Provide an entry-level long ride experience for new riders.

Build relationships among rural riders and neighboring communities.

Encourage youth involvement (including Queen ambassador role – Celeste Gareau, president of Kinley Corner Riding Club and member of Monarch Multiple 4H Club)


3. Event Overview

Name: Country Roads Trail Ride

Format: Weekend-based trail riding event with flexible participation

Key Features:

Multiple trail distances (intro, intermediate, extended)

Prairie terrain: grid roads, pasture, creek crossings, bridges, rail crossings (controlled)

Home-base setup at private ranch (yard + horse pasture)

Outdoor arena and round pen for:

Vet checks

Rider check-ins

Warm ups

Demonstrations (optional)

4. Proposed Dates

Option A (Spring): May 29–31

Pros: Fresh season energy, cooler riding temps

Consideration: Weather variability, muddy conditions

Option B (Late Summer): August 21 or 28

Pros: Stable weather, dry trails, harvest timing (community feel)

Consideration: Heat management, farm activity

👉 Recommendation: Lean toward late August for reliability and rider comfort.

Recreational riders

Youth riders and 4-H groups

Long riders / endurance riders (intro level)

6. Activities &amp; Schedule (Draft)

Friday

Arrival &amp; camp setup

Meet &amp; greet / informal ride

Morning: Cowboy church, Trail rides (multiple distance options 3, 5, 10, 15, 25 miles)

Midday: Vet checks / rest period

Afternoon: Optional second ride or clinic/demo

Supper (community meal)

Live music (potential: Tubbman Junction / Joule Tallman)

Campfire fellowship

Sunday

Short farewell ride

Breakfast / wrap-up

Club and sponsor recognition


*Option of host providing horse drawn wagon rides for non riders and members of community. 


*Option of evening Just for fun gymkhana events for interested people.

8. Safety &amp; Horse Welfare

On-site or on-call veterinarian

Mandatory helmets for all rider 18 and under per SHF sanction rules.

Coggins test recommended but not required to appeal to more youth and recreational riders.

SHF membership recommended but not required.

Kinley Corner Riding Club membership not required.

SLR membership or day pass required. (Cant remember if SLR requires SHF membership)

Horse pasture / overnight penning (minimal). Bring your own panels, electric fences systems, etc.

Water trailer available to bring to trailers

Bring your own power - Generators. Power not available 

Trailer parking

Outdoor arena (vetting + central hub)

Rider camping (self-contained)

Access to washrooms (portable outdoor)

Cooling/relaxation area (pool/deck)
