Chris will be reading their new book, Guinea Pigs Don't Wear Pants (due June 2). This book is a joyful celebration of individuality across the rainbow-hued spectrum and arrives at a moment when affirming, identity-safe stories for children are urgently needed.
With playful rhymes and exuberant illustrations, Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants celebrates the freedom to express yourself and the beauty of being exactly who you are. Readers are invited to imagine a world where animals are hilariously limited in what they can do while humans are gloriously free to saunter, flaunt, and wear just what you want. At its heart, this is the book Farias wished they’d had as a kid growing up in a small town—one that gently opens the door to conversations about self-expression, gender, and being true to yourself.
The book has already drawn early praise from an intergenerational group of cultural icons, including Rosie O’Donnell, Paris Hilton, Margaret Cho, Mae Martin, Sharon Hampson of The Elephant Show, and more. “I can’t stop wondering what my life might have been had I found this in my school library,” says Emmy-winning actress and trans advocate Alexandra Billings. “How much more powerful and beautiful I might have felt.”
Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants draws on years of work by Farias supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, with impact that extends beyond the page. In December, a celebrity read-along of the book helped It Gets Better raise more than $150,000 USD during its end-of-year fundraiser. Farias is also providing free Safe Space materials designed to support conversations around belonging and continues to speak with students, educators, and organizations across the country about identity and joy.
This approach reflects Farias’s belief that joy itself can be a powerful form of support. “For kids who are made to feel wrong for who they are,” says Farias, “joy can be protective. Stories like this can help kids feel less alone and that matters.”

Chris Paul (Rainbows) Farias (they/them) is an award-winning creative strategist, storyteller, and online creator with hundreds of thousands of followers. They first went viral after asking a local bakery for “the gayest cake ever” to celebrate their marriage to husband Jared. Chris is the founder of Unicorn Rebellion, a creative branding agency, and speaks with students, educators, and organizations about creativity, identity, and happiness. Based in Ontario, Chris lives with Jared and a joyful menagerie of animals—chickens, parrots, bunnies, dogs, guinea pigs (obviously), and a tortoise named Rock Hudson. Chris was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for philanthropy and advocacy for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Guinea Pigs Don’t Wear Pants is their debut picture book.
