About the event

When Whales Speak: Turning Research & Real Encounters into Visual Poetry
Join Firuze Gokce and dive into whale sounds, scientific research, and real marine stories into expressive visual art!

About this Event

Join artist and marine conservation advocate Firuze Gokce for an inspiring talk that blends art, science, and storytelling. In this presentation, Firuze shares her creative process of transforming whale songs, spectrograms, and real marine research into vibrant visual art. Through the true stories of individual whales and the scientific discoveries behind her pieces, she explores how storytelling can spark emotional connection and drive conservation action. This talk invites audiences to listen more deeply to the ocean, understand the lives of the whales who inhabit it, and discover the power of art as a voice for the natural world.

Firuze Gokce reached a significant milestone with the debut of her first solo art exhibition on May 23rd, showcasing her "Whale Sounds on a Canvas" collection. This exhibition featured her prints and immersive videos that blended visual art with the auditory experience of whale songs, offering a multi-sensory exploration of marine life. Firuze’s innovative approach incorporates actual whale sound recordings into her artwork. Additionally, her piece "Brave Little Hunter" was requested by Bay Cetology on Vancouver Island, highlighting her ability to convey the emotional depth of the natural world. Firuze was also accepted into the prestigious Sebastopol Art Center Art Trails Program in October 2024, further solidifying her place in the art community. Her artwork “Diving into the Depths of the Ocean” received an “Honorary Mention Award” from the Marine Society of Artists.
