It happens all by itself all the time. But in yoga, pranayama practice is actually the practice of merging breath and consciousness. But that is just the beginning. The culmination of pranayama lies in cultivating the ability to be present with the breath for longer periods of time, and to receive the breath without changing it.In this 3-day course, we will discuss the basic physiology of breathing, learn the difference between breath awareness and pranayama, practice poses which can allow us to move our spine, ribs, and lungs more freely, and of course to practice several pranayama techniques. But the focus in our practice will be on becoming the receptive vessel of the breath rather than using our mind to manipulate every aspect of breathing. Our interest will be with the energy and sensation of the breath instead of trying to make our inhalation, exhalation, and retention longer and longer solely by using effort.Meeting times will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a one hour break for lunch around 1:30 p.m. each day.Please bring 5 yoga blankets, 2 yoga blocks, 1 yoga bolster, and 1 eye pillow.Highly recommended book for this course: "Light on Pranayama" by B.K.S Iyenga"Breath" by James NestorInvestment: $425 for all three days.
