Structural-Visceral Integration: Abdomen & Pelvis
Addressing the viscera of the abdomen and pelvis in the same spatial framework as 'Recipe' Sessions 1-6, this class bridges the container and the contents.
Especially when the client has had competent musculoskeletal care, visceral restrictions can be the anatomical elephant in the room. Appropriate for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, Structural-Visceral Integration (S-VI) is a respectful, user-friendly, direct technique approach at the intersection of Structural Integration (SI) and Visceral Manipulation (VM). S-VI is user-friendly and focused on expanding the Rolfer's skill set working with critical core/sleeve dynamics and important systems anatomy interrelationships.
Generally following the trail of the larger visceral ligaments of the Gastrointestinal Track, visceral components covered include the large intestine, small intestine, cecum, ascending colon, hepatic flexure, liver, gall bladder, transverse colon, stomach, spleen, splenic flexure, descending colon, sigmoid colon, urinary bladder, lesser and greater omentum, root of the mesentery, umbilical ligament, perineum, and parietal peritoneum. Structural components include the respiratory diaphragm, diaphragmatic recess, pelvis, sacrum, coccyx, pubic symphysis, lumbar spine, sacroiliac joints, transverses abdominus, iliacus, psoas, QL, etc..
Class focuses on clinical reasoning skills, body mechanics, palpation, anatomy review, and learning clinically relevant manual therapy techniques through lecture, demonstrations, practicums, and Q&A’s. This class supports your preexisting Rolfing practice and is focused on improving clinical outcomes both inside and outside the 10-Series. S-VI curates building a broader anatomical landscape and framework for interfacing anatomies and working with more of the whole person.
The objective is systems anatomy structural integration.

Teacher Bio:
Bruce Schonfeld is a Certified Advanced Rolfer® & Certified Rolf Movement® Integration Practitioner. Certified in 1994, he maintains a private practice in Santa Monica working both inside and outside the recipe. Bruce specializes in troubleshooting tricky pain and orthopedic problems considering systems anatomy, ADLs, and biopsychosocial perspectives.
Bruce has taken the Rolfing Advanced Rolfing® Training with Jan Sultan & Michael Salveson 3 times. He has studied Visceral & Membranous work with Certified Advanced Rolfers Jan Sultan, Christoph Sommer, Peter Schwind, Jeffrey Maitland, and Liz Gaggini.
Bruce has studied Visceral Osteopathy and Visceral Manipulation (VM) since 1996 including 300+ hours directly with Jean-Pierre Barral DO. Bruce has studied VM with Alain Croibier DO, Didier Prat DO, Alain Gehin DO, Claudia Kohn DO, Olivier Bazin DO, A.J. de Koning DO, Marc Naudin DO, Rene Assink DO, Bonnie Gintis DO, Mark Bookhout PT, Dee Ahern PT, and has assisted Gail Wetzler PT extensively. He enjoys assisting the Barral Institute's Visceral Dissection classes and was a team member of the Fascial Net Plastination Project.
Bruce produced and directed the documentary film series The Secret Life of Fascia.
