About the event

SILENT CONTACT COLOMBIA
We will spend one week together in an amazing but simple setting (little electricity, sleeping in your own tent) a 8 minute walk away from the Carribean Ocean. 20 min by bus from the lovely beach town, Palomino and 1,5 hour from Santa Marta.

During this week we will communicate only through the body and eyecontact, no spoken word.

In this non-verbal context, we connect with ourselves, eachother en nature through conscious touch, contactdance and meditation. Without words our perception changes, we get more easily to the essence. In silence we are all equal.

For everybody who wants to slow down en connect beyond spoken word. For everybody who wants to express and meet her or himself in a safe context. For everybody who wants to merge into silence, together.

All meals are vegetarian and home-made. We sleep in our own tents or hammocks close to the earth. There will be showers and toilet facilities.

We will work on a 80 square meter wooden deck with a view to the ocean.

Max. capacity is 20 participants.

The instructions will be in SPANISH//ENGLISH
Depending on the language of the participants we will translate when needed.

TEACHERS:

VALKIRIA (CO)

Passionate about dance and various forms of body expression, with over 10 years of experience in practicing and promoting this discipline. She is a dancer with studies in Body Expression, Contemporary Dance, and Contact Improvisation, having trained at the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Academia de Artes Guerrero in Bogotá. Her education is further enriched by experiences gained during her travels across Latin America.

Since 2021, she has distinguished herself as a cultural manager and facilitator of dance festivals, retreats, and workshops in Colombia. Her work focuses on the expansion and visibility of physical practices related to art and physical well-being. In addition to her dedication to dance, she firmly believes that social and cultural diversity can be woven together in space-time through the territory-body in motion, offering a unique and enriching perspective in the field of arts and well-being.

She provides a space in her classes to explore personal dance through the relationship between thought, emotion, and action. Using play as a creative tool, she incorporates dynamics of sensory-perceptual development. She proposes spaces for reflection and analogy where movement acts as a transformer of life patterns. This approach allows the development of technical and expressive skills while exploring the impact of dance on daily life.

MARJAN VAN BIJLEN (BE)

Discovered the world of conscious dance at age 18 with 5 rythm dance. At age 21 she followed a three year modern dance training at Wisper (Bxl).
She followed studied dance therapy and many Butoh trainings all over Europe with Atsushi Takenoushi.
From there on she started to study more conscious dance forms such as Movement Medecine, 5 rythms, Life Art Process (Anna Halprin).
Since 2021 she discovered the world of Contact Dance in Colombia and Belgium. She participated at the Silent Contact Festival in Georgia 2023. In 2025 she organised the first Silent Contact Retreat in Colombia and in Belgium.
Nowadays connecting people through silence takes a more prominent place in her classes. Contact Dance feels like coming home in a wordless world.

Since the age of 18 she practises and studies Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga wich she teaches in Colombia and at De Wilde Weg since 2013. Since 2012 Marjan organises and teaches dance during the silent retreats of De Wilde Weg (Belgium). Her passion is to reconnect people with eachother and the wild nature in and around themselves.

She focusses during her classes on listening to the other by going slow. Inspired by Butoh dance, she uses often elements of nature like water, earth,... to inspire our connecting movingquality.
Eyecontact and breath are often the base upon wich her exersices are build.
