We are thrilled to present an afternoon of Delightful Duets with Ann Davenport Lucas, piano, and Hilary Clark, cello, performing works by Dvořák, Schubert, and Brahms as a part of our Music at the Library series. Join us for this free concert presented in Shepard Hall of the Santa Maria Public Library, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 3pm.
These smaller-scale concerts give the public a sneak peek into the world of orchestral music for FREE. We do recommend that you make your seat reservations quickly, as these concerts tend to fill up fast.

Ann Davenport Lucas, piano
Ann Davenport Lucas earned a bachelor's and master of music degrees in piano performance at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she studied with Luiz de Moura Castro. She received her doctoral degree in piano performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where she was a student of Fernando Laires. She was a member of the music faculty at Towson University and the Baltimore School for the Arts, and has pursued ethnomusicological field work with findings been presented at conferences including the Society for Ethnomusicology, the American Anthropological Association, and the International Congress on Medieval Studies. In 2006, she joined the music faculty at Allan Hancock College, where she directed the College Singers and taught music history until her retirement in 2019. The College Singers appeared on several programs with the Santa Maria Philharmonic during her tenure as director of the choir. She is the pianist for the Santa Maria Philharmonic, the San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra, and the San Luis Chamber Orchestra, and has appeared on several occasions as a featured soloist with the San Luis Chamber Orchestra, the Hancock College Concert Band, and San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra.
Hilary Clark, cello
Hilary Clark has played the cello for more than forty years, and music has become an inseparable part of her life. She is deeply committed to preserving the classical music tradition in an increasingly technological world. A graduate of UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Music, Hilary went on to earn her Master of Music degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. She has performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra as well as numerous symphonies and chamber ensembles in the Chicago area. In 2006, she received a scholarship to study cello performance at UC Santa Barbara, where she spent four years as a member of the Young Artists String Quartet. In 2021, Hilary commissioned, premiered, and recorded a new cello concerto by composer Daniel Baldwin (listen here:

). Now based in Nipomo, she shares her home with Figaro, her tuxedo cat, and continues performing with local orchestras and chamber groups. Alongside her musical pursuits, she works full-time as a nuclear medicine technologist and dedicates herself to daily strength training. Hilary also competes regularly in powerlifting and bodybuilding events.
The ‘Music at the Library’ series is presented by the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society.
