Please join us for family fun during our free Family Day at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) on June 7 from 11 am–3 pm. The day will include exciting events, engaging art, and learning experiences for the whole family.
11 am–3 pm:
- Hands-on activity stations for kids by STEAM Santa Fe.
- Snap. Edit. Pop!: Selfie to Pop Art Creations on iPads: Unleash your creativity using Apple’s “Everyone Can Create” tools and iPad camera features by taking selfies and creating bold Pop Art designs. Learn how to use digital coloring, layering techniques, and artistic effects to create a one-of-a-kind expression of yourself and your family and make your picture pop with personality.
- Tiny Movements, Big Stories: The Art of Stop Motion Animation: Bring your imagination to life, one frame at a time, with Apple’s “Everyone Can Create” tools. Craft unique characters from modeling clay and bring them to life using stop motion techniques to tell your own story. Capture small movements that, when put together, create a dynamic and captivating animation.
- Vendors: Smash N Crispy Burgers. Enjoy food provided by Joseph Toledo (Jemez Pueblo) Indigenous entrepreneur and business innovator.
11 am:
- Reading with author and jeweler Leah Prada Harrison (Genízara). Listen to her new children’s book, Mesa the Spirit Dog, a tale about living with intention and embracing your true self.
1:30 pm:
- Artist talk with Douglas Miles (White Mountain Apache, San Carlos Apache, and Akimel O’odham), a 2025 IAIA Artist-in-Residence and upcoming MoCNA exhibition artist. Learn about his upcoming exhibition Always and Forever: Douglas Miles & Apache Skateboards, which opens June 6, 2025.
