"description": "The Global Hands Project empowers students to tackle food insecurity while gaining hands-on STEM and leadership experience. In partnership with New Mexico high schools, we’re building a year-round, climate-controlled greenhouse where students grow fresh produce, study sustainable agriculture, and use their harvest to strengthen local food systems. At least a quarter of every crop is donated to local food pantries and shelters, while a portion fuels a student-run food truck serving healthy, culturally rich meals. Revenue from these pop-ups is reinvested into seeds, equipment, and stipends, creating a self-sustaining cycle of learning and community impact. This initiative also builds an academic pipeline in partnership with Santa Fe Community College, connecting students to advanced coursework and career pathways in agriculture, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. Through cultural exchange programs with high school students in Kenya, participants gain global perspective, share stories and recipes, and explore diverse solutions to food security challenges.Students rotate roles—grower, chef, marketer, treasurer—earning certifications, developing business skills, and building a portfolio of measurable achievements. This is more than a school project—it’s a movement where students feed neighbors, gain confidence, and become global problem-solvers.Learn more at imaniyako.org/events."
