- **Event Description**: Join the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) on Thursday, August 27, for the 2026 Fall Campus Blessing and President’s Convocation. The event will begin at 10:30 am (MDT) in the Dance Circle with a four-directions campus blessing.

Following the campus blessing, the convocation will take place in the Gym at 11 am with a welcome address from IAIA President Dr. Shelly C. Lowe (Navajo) and a keynote address by Diego Romero (Cochiti Pueblo) ’86, A-i-R ’19.

10:30–11 am: Campus Blessing, Dance Circle
11 am–12 pm: President’s Convocation, Gym (Livestreamed)
12–1 pm: Luncheon, Gym
The President’s Convocation will be livestreamed for our off-campus community members on the IAIA website.

About Diego Romero (Cochiti Pueblo) ’86, A-i-R ’19
Diego Romero is a third-generation Cochiti Pueblo artist who specializes in pottery and printmaking. Romero’s practice marries Cochiti Pueblo traditions with his love of comic books, superheroes, mythology, and pop culture. When working in ceramics, he honors his ancestors’ method of coiling clay but expands the tradition with modern imagery and painting treatments. Across mediums, Romero’s narratives combine humor and biting social commentary that suggest messages about contemporary Native American life related to Native politics, history, identity, war, and alcoholism.

Romero attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe before earning his BFA at Otis Parsons School of Design and his MFA at the University of California, Los Angeles. His work is found in numerous public collections including the British Museum (London), Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), National Museum of the American Indian (Washington, D.C.) and New Mexico Museum of Art.
