- **Event Name**: WTS Monterey Bay: The Changing Landscape of Shared Mobility
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 20 Sep, 2018 at 06:00 pm – Thu, 20 Sep, 2018 at 08:30 pm
- **Event Description**: Shared-mobility services, such as ridesharing, bike-sharing, micro-transit, and peer-to-peer rentals, are changing the way that people navigate public spaces. Technologies are evolving rapidly to include an ever-increasing array of mobility services and options. Automated vehicles (AVs) are the most disruptive of these technologies and offer a great opportunity to provide mobility options to people who are currently mobility constrained. However, AVs and mobility services can lead to a host of unintended consequences and secondary impacts if technology is not harnessed to provide a sharing of those services. Come hear from researchers and professionals how new shared mobility services are changing the transportation landscape and the potential impacts of these new services on our built environment.
SPEAKERS:
Becky Steckler, AICP is the Program Manager for Urbanism Next at the University of Oregon. She has over 20 years of experience, with a focus on land use, transportation, economic development, and strategic planning projects. As the Urbanism Next Program Manager, Ms. Steckler manages and conducts technical research on the secondary impacts of emerging technologies – autonomous vehicles (AVs), the sharing economy, and E-commerce – on land use, urban design, transportation, and real estate and the implications of these changes on equity, the economy, the environment, and governance.
Adam Millard-Ball is an economist and a transportation planner, whose work focuses on the potential of urban transportation policy to tackle global climate change. His current research examines the impacts of parking pricing and street connectivity policies, the effectiveness of local climate plans, and future scenarios for autonomous vehicles. Adam is associate professor of environmental studies at UC Santa Cruz, where he teaches courses in environmental policy, planning and economics. He was formerly a Principal with transportation consulting firm Nelson\Nygaard, and holds a PhD from Stanford University.
John Urgo is a senior transportation planner with AC Transit, where he brings experience in service and long range planning to help the District provide safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation to residents of the San Francisco East Bay. John is also the project manager for AC Transit Flex, an on-demand bus service conceived to enhance transit in low density neighborhoods. John has a dual Masters of City Planning and Transportation Engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
