We couldn't be more elated to welcome her on February 2nd for a live podcast-style conversation and Q&R, as we discuss how sacred stories reorient us to time and other ideas from her new book, A Beautiful Year!We are gathering on the feast day of St. Brigid, the patroness saint of beer, so come cheers with us during a fun, poignant, and beautiful evening of dialogue with one of the great spiritual authors of our time! Tickets are $15, and available now at Eventbrite.com!-------In her most recent book, , Diana offers an essay for every week in the seasons of the Christian year: From Advent and Christmas to Lent and Easter through the entire calendar.Other than its major holidays, many people are not familiar with the rhythms of the church year, an ancient spiritual cycle of time. Yet all religions have such calendars ― and they shape our understanding of faith. In the West, we live in tension with the secular calendar (mostly an inheritance from the Roman Empire) and the Christian liturgical calendar, a cycle of sacred stories that compose a larger narrative of love, hospitality, mercy, justice, and gratitude. Bass reclaims and presents fresh perspectives for every biblical text in the church year; from musing on A Wrinkle in Time in Advent, to remembering her father’s old-fashioned blue Christmas decorations, and offering a revolutionary reading of the Last Supper. With fresh insights on familiar stories, these essays surprise and inspire, challenge and comfort, and will be savored year after year. Beautifully designed, the book is also a perfect gift. Books will be available for purchase at the event.Join us for an evening with Diana as she explores these themes in a fun and accessible format, and dialogues in a Q&R with the audience.-------This event is hosted by , a practice and value-based contemplative community in Santa Barbara that is committed to love and liberation. She does this with intelligence, joy, and a good dose of humor, leading well-known comedian John Fugelsang to dub her “iconic,” the late Marcus Borg to call her “spontaneous and always surprising,” and Glennon Doyle to praise her “razor-sharp mind” and “mystical heart.”She holds a doctorate in religious studies from Duke University and is the author of eleven books. Her bylines include The New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN.com, Atlantic.com, USA Today, Huffington Post, Spirituality and Health, Reader’s Digest, Christian Century, and Sojourners. She has commented on religion, politics, and culture in the media widely including on CBS, CNN, PBS, NPR, CBC, FOX, Sirius XM, TIME, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and in multiple global news outlets. In the 1990s, she wrote a weekly column on religion and culture for the Santa Barbara News-Press, which was distributed nationally by the New York Times Syndicate. Her work has received two Wilbur Awards for best nonfiction book of the year, awards from Religion News Association for individual commentary and for Book of the Year, Nautilus Awards Silver and Gold medals, the Illumination Book Award Silver medal, Books for a Better Life Award, Book of the Year of the Academy of Parish Clergy, the Frank S. and Elizabeth D. Brewer Prize for Church History, Substack Fellowship for Independent Writers, and Publishers Weekly’s Best Religion Book of the Year. She and her husband live in Alexandria, Virginia, with their dog and their sometimes-successful backyard garden.

"description": "Way Collective is a contemplative community for love and liberation working for the common good in Santa Barbara, CA.We sense that a whole bunch of people are feeling that there's got to be a better way to live into Jesus' teachings on love and community in the 21st century -- one that leads us toward healing justice for our communities. We are a collective that is living into that by sharing in practices and values rather than beliefs. We are a community who is learning to:• Ground our lives in Love in a community centered on loving and liberating contemplative Christian practices.• Grow in Love through dialogue with people from diverse traditions who share core values.• Work for Love by cultivating the common good in Santa Barbara and beyond. We find that we're better together. And, as there are too many forms of religion contributing to the divisions in our world, we come together to practice Connection, Curiosity, Creativity, Collaboration, Consciousness, and Compassion. Our gatherings emphasize building friendships over a meal and having meaningful conversations about topics that transform our perspectives. Our desire is to grow in living peacefully with a deepening sense of belonging, mystery, beauty, healing justice, wisdom, and love. All are welcome regardless of background, belief, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious or non-religious conviction. You can't unbelieve your way out of our community. Come hang with us and join this movement for love and liberation in Santa Barbara and beyond!"
