This isn’t just a stroll through the flower beds; it’s a scientific scouting mission to find where our local pollinators are hiding out until spring.The Mission: Scouting for Overwintering InsectsMost people think pollinators disappear in the winter, but they are actually right under our feet (and inside our stems!). During this hour-long guided tour, we will:Explore the "Tiny Motels": Learn why we leave hollow stems and "dead" stalks standing—they are prime real estate for solitary bees.Leaf Litter Look-ins: See how butterflies and moths use fallen leaves as cozy blankets to survive the frost.Garden Basics: Get a general tour of the Pollinator Haven Garden layout and learn about our plant selection for the upcoming 2026 season.Event DetailsWhen: Friday, February 27, 2026Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.Where: Pollinator Haven Garden (Lee County Extension Center- 2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, NC 27332)Cost: $5 per person- You get to take home a plant!Who: Open to the general public (Children ages 8 and older are welcome!)Registration on EventBrite (cash or check only with walk-up)Where to meet: Please pull around the right hand side of the McSwain Building, park in the side lot and meet the Extension Master Gardener volunteers at the Garden Shed to check in.What to BringComfortable Boots: We’ll be walking through garden paths that might be damp.Sharp Eyes: We’ll be looking for tiny cocoons and hollow-stem dwellers.Layers: It’s February in North Carolina—the weather likes to keep us guessing! We will be outside, so be prepared!Come see the "hidden" side of the garden before the big spring bloom begins.
