The event you've all been waiting for. The annual Summit Solstice is back!
This year we will be celebrating the 9th year of this ridiculous idea and, as always, we get excited (if not somewhat mortified) every year we announce the Summit Solstice!
Once a year an astronomical alignment ushers the seasonal change known as the summer solstice, marking the longest day of the year. In our 9th iteration of this stupidly early ride, we are once again organising a 4am roll out in order to watch the sunrise at the top of kunanyi. What better way to celebrate the longest day of the year?
As usual, this will be a relatively informal event. We want the main group to join us at 4am at Bob and Tom's Servo for a jaunt to the top. However, we encourage riders of all pace abilities to join us for this event.
We will have a couple of regroup points, but mostly we just want people to grab a mate and ride up the mountain at a ridiculous hour so we can appreciate the cool sunrises Tassie throw at us at the best viewpoint we have in our own backyard!
The 4am group will aim to get up the top around 5:45am. To give you an idea of pace and when you might like to set off we will be pacing at approximately a 1:20 - 1:30 kunanyi climb based off the strava segment (ie. Mt Wellington #StravaClassicClimb). Please feel free to leave earlier than the 'main' group or a bit later if you want to try chase us OR at a completely different hour of the day! We just want to see as many people summit the mountain on the longest day of the year!
We are once again encouraging runners to join us for the jaunt up the mountain. We would love to see a bunch of runners meet us at the top again!
We would love for you to tag @tasmaniancyclingtours and #SummitSolstice if you do either join us or go for a jaunt up the mountain on the longest day of the year!
We will of course have a compulsory coffee meet up post ride at Cult Logic. Regardless of what time you set off, we would love for you to join us for coffee if you can!
