- **Event Name**: Yogic weekend seminar: Tension and freedom - the psychology of the body
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 08 Mar, 2025 at 09:30 am – Sun, 09 Mar, 2025 at 07:00 pm
- **Event Description**: The body is a map of our experiences, beliefs and trauma. Everything we believe and hold on to in the mind is stored as tension in the body. This weekend-seminar is aimed at identifying our own blockages by using the body as a platform, and learning concrete tools for releasing those blockages, so we can live freer, more spacious and joyful lives.

Welcome to an immersive experience at the intersection of modern science and ancient tradition, where will explore the body as a therapeutic platform, and a map from tension and suffering to openness and freedom.

In the western world, we see emotion as being something mental. Following that, we believe that we can heal negative emotional patterns conceptually: by understanding them rationally, explaining them to ourselves, or changing our narrative around them. Essentially, we attempt to heal ourselves through the mind.
Emotions, however, are not mental phenomena. They are physical. Emotion is experienced by the body. The mind merely creates a conceptual framework around the somatic sensations. The body feels, and the mind tells a story about the feelings.

Traumatic experiences, without resolution, leads to the body tensing. This tensing is the body’s way of creating “armour” between ourselves and perceived danger. Tensions held in the body are therefore the somatic manifestation of the resistance held in the mind toward certain experiences and parts of ourselves. The only way to reintegrate those aspects of our experience back into a coherent unit, and thus become whole, is to dissolve the bodily tension, which serves as an anchoring for mental suffering.

We cannot understand away negative emotional states. What we can do is feel them out of the body. This requires that we learn something that for most modern, mentally-oriented people, is very hard to do: which is to feel without resistance: to sense without mentally evaluating our experience. This is a training in relaxing the judging part of the mind, letting it dissolve, and move into feeling and sensing.

Different parts of the body stores different emotional states and tonalities. This is evident in our language: we naturally talk about having a lump in our throat when we feel guilt or shame, for example. During this immersive, packed two-day workshop, we will explore all the different emotional tones and centers in the body. By learning to make the shift from judging, and into feeling, awareness, we will move through our physical bodies, using a wide variety of tools from yogic and tantric science, and discover, sit with, and release emotional baggage, patterns and armor stored in muscular tension and in the nervous system.

We will learn to see the body not as something separate and independent from the mind and our experience of self, but as our main therapeutic platform, and tool for self-development.
Participants will learn how the positions, movements and breathing techniques of traditional yoga and tantra gives us access to - through our body - to our unconscious mind, and therefore opens a gateway through which we can engage with our repressed experiences and emotions in a non-evaluating, wide-open manner. This skill, once developed, gives us the power to dissolve negative emotional states, once they arise, in a surprisingly effective and easy way.

This weekend will help you live with less tension, and more freedom. You will be given a safe platform whereon you, with the guidance of highly competent teachers, can engage with the deepest, most sensitive parts of you, and release deep-seated pain. You will be given the opportunity to explore your physical self in an entirely new way, and experience how much your body can teach you about yourself.

The workshop serves as a great build-on for therapists who wish to deepen their understanding of the role somatic experience plays in trauma therapy and healing. You will receive a wide variety of easy-to-use, simple tools that unlocks repressed emotional experience in the body. Moreover, you will study how different positions in the body trigger different emotional responses, and how simple movement can function as an effective emotional regulator.
