‘Amazing Grace’ tells the story of John Newton, eighteenth century slave ship captain turned Christian priest, who experienced a dramatic spiritual conversion during a storm at sea in 1748.

Newton's world-famous hymn embodies his journey from enslaver to redemption through the grace of God; his words (and the later, equally-loved tune) have become a universal anthem for freedom.
Somerset-based Oddments company will visit Kirkbymoorside as part of a national tour starting in Devon and calling in Cumbria, North and West Yorkshire and Merseyside before heading home via the Midlands.

Vicar of Kirkbymoorside with Gillamoor, Farndale, Bransdale and Edstone the Revd Paul Sunderland said, "We'll be joining John Newton on his journey of faith as he battles the high sea, his own lost love and his sense of self-destruction before he finds himself rescued by the mercy of a compassionate God - and all this in Kirkbymoorside's own beautiful parish church."

Oddments is a theatre company of professional actors who want to see lives changed and hearts challenged through their productions; they take this message by invitation to churches, schools and prisons across the country.
