•Spearfishing of species other than targeted species is prohibited.

Targeted Species:
Armored Catfish, Tilapia,
Red Rimmed Melania Snails, Giant Ramshorn Snails (and trash).

•Freediving/snorkeling only. NO scuba diving of any kind including surface supplied diving (i.e. Brownies Third Lung system or similar).

•No spear guns or Hawaiian slings.

•ALWAYS dive with a friend either in the water or on the banks monitoring close by.

•Let someone know when/where you plan on diving and when you will return.

•A valid Texas fishing license and Driver’s License or ID card are required on person.

•You must spearfish in designated section of river and during time scheduled only. 

•No violations of park ordinances or state laws are permitted. 

•You must maintain 30 feet clearance between yourself and others while spearing.

•It is your responsibility to have a stringer or some other means of holding your haul.

•The upper section starts at Spring Lake Dam and ends before the first chute at Rio Vista (do not spear above Spring Lake Dam or in Spring Lake, do not spear at or downstream of first chute at Rio Vista Falls).

•The middle section begins at the first chute at Rio Vista falls and ends at Capes Dam (do not spear above the first chute at Rio Vista Dam, do not spear below or downstream of Capes Dam).

•The lower section begins at the Capes Dam and ends at Stokes Park (do not spear above Capes Dam, do not spear downstream of Stokes Park - see map).

•Game Wardens and Park Rangers will be out enforcing ordinances and laws.

•At the end of your time slot, bring your haul to weigh in at 305 Riverside Dr. Instructions and documentation material will be on front porch along with cooler. Please fill out forms completely!
