Designed to welcome youth of all abilities and backgrounds, the camp creates a safe, supportive space where every participant is seen, valued, and encouraged to explore who they are through music.Over the course of the music camp, students write songs, learn instruments, sing, and collaborate with one another. Along the way, they build more than musical skills. They gain confidence. They learn how to listen, work as a team, and take creative risks. Students are introduced to a wide range of musical styles and traditions, while also being encouraged to draw from their own stories, cultures, and lived experiences. By learning side by side with peers of different abilities and perspectives, participants develop empathy, respect, and a genuine sense of community. The summer music camp concludes with a public performance at the Wildflower Country Event Center, where students share the original songs and collaborations they’ve created together. This celebration isn’t just a concert — it’s a powerful moment of pride, visibility, and affirmation for the students and their families, and a reminder of what inclusive arts education can look like when everyone is invited to participate. The need for this program is real and growing. In 2025, OYOU offered this music camp, with 75% able to attend free of charge thanks to donor support. Affordable music camps are scarce in San Marcos — or frankly anywhere, and programs intentionally designed to include youth of all abilities are even rarer. By removing financial barriers and adapting instruction to meet each child where they are, OYOU ensures that access to music education isn’t limited by income, ability, or circumstance. The impact of the OYOUth Summer Music Camp is felt both immediately and long after the final note is played. Participants leave with stronger musical skills, increased confidence, and meaningful friendships. Families report positive changes in self-expression and engagement, and many students continue making music well beyond the camp experience. With the support of sponsors, this program continues to nurture creativity, connection, and belonging — one song, and one young person, at a time.

"description": "The OYOU hosts a variety of free and ticketed events and workshops. Our mission also serves more than just the participants at our events and programs. At OYOU we hire artists and musicians to lead workshops or perform at our community concerts; providing them with additional income and more importantly a format in which to inspire and teach. By providing a modest stipend, we are able to give back to the artist community by providing a means in which to support it.Some of our workshop leaders have been affected by neurological conditions, cancer, depression, and other health challenges. They have found a role in mentoring students with similar health conditions and inspiring others to rise above their own personal challenges so that they, too, can embrace and enjoy a higher quality of life.In addition, the OYOU provides scholarships for every program offered, allowing those who would otherwise be unable to afford tuition to attend and learn. Scholarships are offered based on financial need and for teachers, veterans, special needs students, and patients who are suffering from medical conditions. The OYOU also has scholarships available for our children's music camp and kid's club, so that children in need can attend for free. The OYOU creates a welcoming, non-judgmental backdrop that celebrates diversity through the creative arts. Our events help fill a void for arts based education that is increasingly absent in budget-strapped public schools. Our events also offer lifelong learning opportunities for adults and senior citizens. In order to serve our mission to the fullest extent, the OYOU is continuing to expand programming at our venue on Wilory Farm, and within our community. We offer an ongoing series called \"Playing for Good\" with music and writing programs at nursing homes, libraries, schools, and centers, so that we can positively impact as many lives as possible in Central Texas."
