About The Alameda ArtworksThis year marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of The Alameda Artworks Studios, a collective of studios in three buildings that previously served as a municipal building for meetings and conferences, a roller rink and a car repair facility. In 1991 Falko Forbrich purchased the buildings and converted them to artist studios. The beautifully refinished hardwood floors in the wide hall are the original surface on which San Jose skaters happily whirled. The Forbrich Family continues the tradition of supporting local culture by offering affordable workspace to local artists. The Alameda Art Works now boasts one of the largest, most diverse and lively artists’ communities in the Bay Area. Over 45 artists work in oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, pastels, glass, jewelry, fiber, and photography.
