- **Event Name**: FREE: RARE POSTER EXHIBIT: The Only Known Ken Kesey Acid Test Poster
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 06 Dec, 2025 at 10:00 am – Sat, 06 Dec, 2025 at 03:00 pm
- **Event Description**: On December 4th, San Jose Rocks unveiled an historic plaque at San Jose City Hall recognizing the site where the Grateful Dead performed for the first time under that name on December 4, 1965, at Ken Kesey's Acid Test, held at 38 S. 5th St. in downtown San Jose on the same night that the Rolling Stones were playing at two sold out concerts at San Jose Civic Auditorium

San Jose Rocks returned that poster just yards away from where it all began.

This incredibly rare poster, on loan to San Jose Rocks, will be featured in History San José's "South Bay Flashback: Riffs, Rhythms, and Revolution", a yearlong exhibition showcasing hundreds of items from Bill Guardino's collection of over a quarter-million pieces of '60s and '70s Bay Area music and counterculture memorabilia.

Why this matters: That night at 38 South 5th Street changed music history forever. What happened beneath what is now San Jose City Hall helped birth the Grateful Dead, launched the psychedelic era, and connected the experimental spirit of the counterculture to Silicon Valley's innovative DNA.

Explore walls covered with original concert posters featuring the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and other legends at long-gone South Bay venues. Celebrate San Jose's own homegrown rock royalty including Count V, Doobie Brothers, Syndicate of Sound, PEOPLE!, and the Jaguars. Step through beaded curtains into a black-lit headshop room.

Discover underground newspapers like the San Jose Maverick and San Jose Red Eye that captured the social and political movements of the era – publications that tied together the music scene, concert artwork, and the revolutionary spirit of the times.

PLUS: Limited Edition Stanley Mouse Commemorative Posters Available! Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a limited edition 60th anniversary commemorative poster designed by legendary artist Stanley Mouse specifically for the December 4th plaque unveiling at San Jose City Hall.
