Watermelon Funk is a genre-defying collective led by Grammy-nominated musician and producer Deshawn “Dvibes” Alexander, keys player for Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. Based in Denver, the band blends deep funk, soul, jazz, and hip-hop into an electrifying experience that moves both spirit and body.
The group features an all-star lineup of funk royalty and rising innovators:
Starchild Jr. - (aka Garrett Shider), son of P-Funk legend Garry Shider, ~ Guitar and Vocals
Benzel Baltimore - (Benjamin Cowan), powerhouse drummer for George Clinton and P-Funk ~ Drums
Kevin Goins - brother of Glenn Goins and former frontman of Quazar and P-Theory, ~ Vocals
Norwood Fisher - Original member of Fishbone ~ Bass
Bobby Vega - Etta James ~ Bass
Brittney Beckett ~ Vocals
Bryce “B Quiz” Quinn ~ Guitar
Together, they channel the spirit of Parliament-Funkadelic while crafting a sound that’s fresh, raw, and deeply rooted in the blues, gospel, and groove traditions.Their latest record, Afrodesiac, features collaborations with P-Funk luminaries and showcases the collective’s deep chemistry and virtuosity.
