During this training we will provide you with information on what actually makes learning to read challenging and resources on how we can best support the young readers in our lives.Learning ObjectivesParticipants will be able to:Reflect upon early reading experiences and how the brain processes languageDiscover and discuss why reading is not a natural processLearn what makes learning to read challenging for most kids and what we can do to support their reading journeysWe will also be prepared to explore additional topics like supporting multilingual learners, managing student behaviors, and learning about the central domains of literacy based on the group’s interestWho Should Participate?This training applies to everyone.TrainersLauren Cono (she/her) and Miiraf Arefeaine (she/her) have both been working with Reading Partners for the past 5 years. They train and support Americorps members who serve in Bay Area schools and coach community volunteers as they tutor students who are reading below grade level.
