He recently left the San Francisco Chronicle after 34 years. Before the Chronicle, Ostler wrote for The National Sports Daily for a year as a featured columninst, and before that he was at the Los Angeles Times for 12 years, as a columnist, feature writer and beat reporter for the Dodgers, Angels and Lakers.Scott has been voted California Sportswriter of the Year 15 times. While with the Chronicle, he also spent two years writing a cityside column. He grew up near Los Angeles, attended Pepperdine College for two years, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in journalism. He has written five books, most recently a young adult novel, “Bouncing Back,” which has remained in print for six years. One of Scott’s columns from the L.A.
