You can also register for the livestream.Books are available to add to your order at check-out.What does it mean to live a hyphenated life? So many folks are forced to toggle across the multiple layers of who they are, and across the diverse spaces they occupy. They may be children of immigrants, 1.5 gen, of color; they may be disabled, neurodivergent, or queer. Regardless of how they identify, they exist in an in-between space while also trying to fit into the dominant culture. With a foot in multiple worlds, belonging fully to none, it can be hard to figure out where they fit in.Join Dr. Han Ren, psychologist and a hyphenate herself, for a conversation on navigating the in-between spaces of intersectional identities. As a 1.5 generation Chinese-American immigrant, neurodivergent mind, and mother, Dr. Ren seeks to offer solutions for those with intersectional identities to fully express who they are in any and every environment. She shares insights from her latest book, The Hyphenated Life and discusses how existing in marginalized bodies affects the ways folks show up in dominant culture and predominantly white spaces. She offers tools, stories, and solutions for understanding and living with the intricacies of multicultural identity development.Han Ren, PhD, is a hyphenated professional: licensed clinical and school psychologist, speaker, educator, and content creator. She is also a 1.5-generation Chinese-American immigrant, neurodivergent mind, mother, partner, and only child. Dr. Ren holds a doctorate in Child Clinical and School Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She was an adjunct professor at UT Austin and a former pre-K special educator. Han lives in Austin, Texas, where she co-leads Pivot Psychology Austin, a group private practice.Jenna Robinson (MA, LMFT, PTR) is a multi-racial Bay Area based poetry therapist, professor, and performance poet informed by a narrative worldview. A two-time Hawaii Slam champion and 2015 National Poetry Slam finalist, she has facilitated multimodal poetry therapy workshops with youth, adults, and families across California and Hawai‘i. Through her master’s program, clinical training in family violence and poetry therapy, Jenna has developed a therapy approach melding narrative therapy, liberation psychology, expressive arts, spoken word poetry, and collective practices. Jenna values working alongside people responding to trauma, those navigating family violence, and youth impacted by systems in her private practice, while also directing Bay Area Creative’s therapeutic writing program, Revisions. She teaches as an assistant professor in the Expressive Arts Therapy concentration of the M.A. in Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies and contributes to the field through her service on the Board of the National Association for Poetry Therapy. We are grateful to our Bookstore PartnerMarcus Books is the nation’s oldest Black-owned independent bookstore celebrating its 60th year.
